Mere & District Railway Modellers was the inspiration of Jenny Seward who with Tom Snook and others negotiated with Mere Parish Council from 2012 -14 to achieve a property suitable for a small and fledgling club. The Old Band Hut at the above location was threatened to be demolished, and it was at that moment that the club rescued it for the community. It was restored under the leadership of Tom, who supplied the capital with friends and a South West Area Grant to completely renovate and insulate this old wooden building. The Club was officially opened by Councillor George Jeans on Saturday May 30^th 2015.

Throughout this period of time the core members of the club had met in either the lecture hall or Jenny Sewards house where they planned and executed the annual exhibition that is held in the third week of June each year commencing in 2013.
